Fw: Story

Extremely grateful (Choose Love) for our staff who went above and beyond for one of our families.  Sometimes, we do what we do without expecting to know what impact it will have on others.  This is an example of how a homeless mom whose school-age child needed a place to call school if only for a short period of time was able to share what Kaimiloa has done for her family.

Thank you to our VPs Laura and Chad for coming up with a Safety Plan that kept the child safe and allowed the mom to concentrate on taking care of herself first, so she could care for her family.  A even bigger Mahalo to our counselors, teachers and support staff who followed safety plan.

Deb & Laura,

Wanted to pass on this story and congratulate your school again for making such a difference.

I just met Ann Taugasolo-Wilks, Domestic Violence Specialist at Child Family Services this past Thursday to support a homeless family.  She was sharing the success story of a mom who was empowered to get out of her situation. She said it was due to the support she felt from your school's extremely well-prepared and high-end safety plan when her children entered your school.  Due to that the mom was able to secure her own place and get back on her feet ... that's why she was able to move on (and students transitioned out of your school). I know it was extremely stressful to create that safety for all on campus. Thanks to all your recommendations, we are working with Toby to have resources in place (ie. like hiring police) and other alternatives.

Sean, should there be an opportunity, Ann would like to share this story at a principal or VP meeting to commend Kaimiloa's team & share how it changed that familiy's life.  Kaimiloa could share what they put in place as a heads-up to other schools who may encounter these types of situations.  According to CFS there are more and more cases of DV and since there are only 2 emergency shelters on Oahu; Ann's covers from central area to Leeward coast.

Christina

Correlations from iReady to SBA analysis

As we dig deeper into iReady implementation this year, I wanted our District Resource teacher Daniel Noia to pull some data for us correlating SBA and iReady data.  Below are his findings.  This may help grade levels who are looking at iReady scores and goal planning for their classes. Deb Hatada, Principal Kaimiloa Elementary School Office (808) 689-1280   FAX (808) 689-1284 Good morning, Yes. That is correct. I apologize for not making that clear. Restating just for clarification   Greater than .90 High correlation means that there is a definite relationship between performance on iReady and SBA Between .6 and .9 Medium correlation means there might be some relationship or connection between how well a student does on iReady is predictive as to how well they will do on SBA Less than .6 Little correlation means scores on both assessments have no relationship at all to each other I look forward to working with you folks on the 18th a...
