Re: Artic Room and Library

That is such great news our Library is getting so much use and it is being utilized as a shared space for adult and student learning.  With flexible furniture, the room can easily be configured in the afternoons to have two areas for academies and also spaces in corners for teachers to continue to collaborate or meet.  Furniture, white board can be used to section off area.   Just be sure if you are moving furniture to accommodate whatever activity is going on during a particular time during the day and not only afterschool, that adults reconfigure the room the way they found it. I am liking the way it's so natural to see students and adults working alongside each other in the common spaces of our library - it's one way for students to see that adults learn in very much the same way they do, collaborating and interacting with others. Fw: Choose Love conference updates - February 2, 2019

We have 10 slots reserved for our school.  Please indicate your interest in attending this conference that will be held on Saturday, February 2 by filling out a form to be sent out later.  The 25 Break-Out sessions will be completely teacher and student-led however Scarlett will be there to do the key-note.  Attending this conference, you will be able to see how teachers are making Choose Love, a "way of life" in every classroom in the school.  As principal Stacie Kunihisa commented below, Choose Love is not a discrete lesson taught during a block in the school day but a way of interacting with yourself and others throughout the school day and beyond.  In speaking with her, Glen Iwamoto and other school principals who have chosen this SEL program, classroom misbehaviour and discipline referrals have been reduced because students are now able to self-manage their feelings and actions.  We have already seen this with students at our school who are able to articulate the choices

Sub Day - Grade Level PD

Please check Master Calendar (I will too) when scheduling your Sub Grade Level PD Day.  If another Grade Level already has taken the date you want, keep into consideration if you want coaches present at your meeting.  Also, as a rule let's try to keep the number of subs on campus on any given day to around 10.  More than that and we have some logistical problems.  If you notice that we have some teachers leaving for campus for PD, this might affect also the number of subs on campus.  I will have Dar put into the calendar in ( ) the number of subs needed for any given event. As a reminder, you will need to turn in your sub requests early enough for Jean to find subs.  The two week rule still is in effect. You may want to look at your calendars now to begin putting in your 2nd Quarter request for Sub PD Day and turn in to Jean right after Fall Intersession as dates will fill up quickly.   Thank you, deb Deb Hatada, Principal Kaimiloa Elementary School Office (
