Photo Op

Tammy Takimoto, our photographer from Kenneth's Photography will be on campus tomorrow Wednesday, May 1 to take live photos of the teaching and learning going on in our classrooms.  No teacher emailed me to say they didn't want their students and/or classrooms photographed when I first sent an email of her coming some time during May so I will assume she can visit any of our classrooms as long you are not in SBA testing. Please let us know if you are doing something special tomorrow and give us a time if you would like for her to come in to capture some memories.   Deb Hatada, Principal Kaimiloa Elementary School Office (808) 689-1280   FAX (808) 689-1284

Fw: Follow Up re: Saturday's Incident

Yeah - Thank you Laura.  She attended the musical performance at Ilima on Saturday afternoon when a fight broke out between two men, right outside the door where she was standing.  Both men were on the ground. Michelle Suzuki, who is our complex area School Renewal Specialist and Laura stayed on scene, alerted Principal Bonilla and only left after police were called and order was restored. A Vice Principal's work is 24/7 and sometimes extends beyond our school campus into another school's boundary.  Shout out to Laura who also said the musical was very well performed. Impact Cycle Sharing

Thank you to all teachers who shared their Impact Cycle results yesterday afternoon.  As we (Laura, Chad and myself) made our way through the different groups sharing, we saw the level of learning, self-reflection and collegiality has truly been elevated to a new level of professionalism when talking about teacher practice here at Ka`imiloa.  I remember how in our first year of Impact Cycle work, we were unsure what action research entailed and this lack of certainty or clarity with the process often left us frustrated and wanting to give it up.  I am so glad we all persevered and continued to go through our 2-3 cycles per year. Some of the comments I heard are evidence of the strides we are making as individual teachers and a teaching staff with not only our professional practice, but also the shared belief that Ka`imiloa will be a place where "Teachers see learning through the eyes of their students and students see themselves as their own teachers".  The comments follo

Linking Walk - May 7th

Good Morning Kaimiloa Teachers!, Hope you're all having a great week!  It's almost FRIDAY! :o) We are in need of two volunteers to join us on our final Linking Walk (to visit classrooms - mainly to evaluate the effectiveness of our observation tool) for the school year.  It will be held on May 7th . A sub will be provided for you.  As a small incentive, you may use some of the "down time"(we are doing a morning/afternoon walk thru schedule) to work on your personal classroom needs or simply to  catch your breath during the hectic end-of-year rush.   Sounds appealing? :o) We will have a couple of district RTs join us as well, however we need a few more to create at least 3 teams. Please respond to my email if you are interested.  The first two responders will be selected to participate. Fw: Equity, Excellence & Innovation

In looking at next school year and reflecting on all that we've accomplished, please take some time to read over the Superintendent's initial thoughts on the DOE development of their 10 year plan. Of special interest if I were to highlight her report: Every classroom provides rigorous applied learning, design thinking, project-based designs Student voice in what and how they learn Powerful PLCs Leverage technology to provide students with opportunities to design, iterate and collaborate Key Questions we will be addressing: What is student success? How do we measure what we really value? How do we support each student to experience success? Still in process of development: Empowerment Framework Portfolio of School Design Innovation After looking over the Spark Notes above and as we reviewed our work with WASC last year and Academic Plan this year, the majority of the above bullets should be topics you've heard or talked about.
